Gordon Faragher

Gordon Faragher

Starting his career working at PWC as an auditor, Gordon joined Kaplan in 1986 as part of the lecturers faculty. He has a wealth of experience ranging from operational management of our classroom Accountancy & Tax training centres in Manchester and Liverpool as well as account manager working in our Hawksmere Professional Development division of Kaplan, delivering in house courses to high profile clients across the country including HMRC and KPMG.

Gordon specialises in Law, Taxation and Business strategy teaching ACCA F4 and P3 and ACA advanced case study in the Live Online team.

Gordon believes learning is most effective when there is the right balance of knowledge, application and fun! His charismatic personality, wealth of knowledge and ability to encourage interaction via the Live Online chat panel immediately puts students at ease and engenders confidence within the class resulting in exceptional performance amongst his cohorts of students.

Peter Nunn

Peter Nunn

Since leaving school, Peter has had over 20 years business experience within manufacturing, public and service sectors and occupied a number of senior roles including Head of European Strategy for a major US company.

Taking up a role in teaching, Peter has taught at the University of Hertfordshire in the UK and the American University in Bulgaria before moving to Kaplan in 2008. Peter is CIMA and MBA qualified and has delivered a wide range of professional and academic qualifications.

Peter specialises in areas related to driving organisations forward through strategy development, process improvements and appropriate leadership and management. He teaches across a wide range of subjects most notably CIMA T4, CIMA E3 and ACCA P5. His calm and focused approach to these exams fills students with confidence as they tackle these higher level papers.

As a core member of the Live Online lecturers faculty for over 4 years , Peter has been responsible for driving improvements in the development of on the live online community so that students get an increasingly interactive experience throughout their Live Online courses.

  • Peter also has had a number of examiners roles including Senior Examiner for the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply.
  • In his spare time Peter is a qualified pilot, enjoys marathon running and travelling.
Jen Woodhams

Jen Woodhams
ACA qualified

From 1999 to 2002, Jen read Economics and Mathematics at The University of Sheffield, gaining a 1st class honours degree and a prize in Econometrics.

During her final year at university, Jen had a summer placement at Deloitte in their Audit and Assurance department and accepted a permanent graduate role after finishing university. Whilst working there, Jen was involved in many audits of medium to large listed companies.

Jen became ACA qualified with all first time passes in 2005 and moved to work for Kaplan Financial in Leeds. Jen was part of the original team of lecturers to deliver Live Online lectures, moving to the Live Online division when it was created in 2010.

Jen specialises in teaching Management Accounting papers & has taught many prize winners, most recently two students studying CIMA P2 in the May 2014 sitting.

Jim Hinchliffe

Jim Hinchliffe

Jim completed his degree in Accounting and Finance with the University of Manchester? in 1999 and shortly after joined Ernst and Young as an auditor within their Assurance Team. ?After 3 years of practical experience auditing across a range of small, family owned companies through to large listed multinational organisations Jim joined Kaplan in 2002.

Since joining Kaplan, Jim has specialised in teaching Audit and Financial Reporting papers across all levels teaching primarily in the Yorkshire region of the UK. In August of 2014 Jim was appointed Head of Kaplan Financial Live Online to bring his wealth of classroom teaching experience to the fastest growing division with Kaplan Financial.

Jim will be delivering the Live Online ACCA F8 paper in 2015, a paper in which his last cohort of students attained an outstanding pass rate of 93%.

?Jim says ' I love being a lecturer at Kaplan Financial and get great personal satisfaction when my students pass their exams. Over the years I have developed excellent delivery skills and know how to convey difficult technical knowledge and exam technique in the most easy to understand way. Nasheen Wuisman

Nasheen Wuisman

Nasheen completed her degree in Accounting and Business Finance with the University of Hull 1999 and shortly after joined PKF as an auditor.

After 3 years of practical experience auditing a variety of small companies and large international entities, specialising in Hotels and Building Societies, Nasheen joined Kaplan in 2004.

Since joining Kaplan Nasheen has specialised in teaching Financial Accounting, Financial Reporting and Performance Strategy around the Yorkshire region of the UK.

In 2010 Nasheen joined the newly created Live Online division, to help develop and grow an innovative sector of the business that brings all existing knowledge and expertise to students studying anywhere and everywhere.

Nasheen will be delivering the Live Online CIMA P3 paper in 2015, a paper in which pass rates have averaged over 85% in the last few sittings. She has taught 12 prizewinners in P3, including students who came 1st, 4th and 5th in the world in P3 between 2011-2013.

After gaining a First Class degree in Mathematics from Durham University, Andrew qualified as a Chartered Accountant while working for Price Waterhouse. ?He then joined Kaplan in 1995.

?Since joining Kaplan, Andrew has specialised in teaching Financial Management papers across all levels, teaching primarily in the north of England.

In 2008, he joined Kaplan Publishing as an author, and since then he has specialised in writing Kaplan’s course material for the ACCA P4 paper, alongside his teaching role.

He says 'After 20 years of teaching Advanced Financial Management in classrooms around the UK, I am really looking forward to bringing my expertise to the Live Online courses. Tony first joined Kaplan over 20 years ago teaching Corporate and Financial reporting, Audit and Law papers. He was nominated, short-listed and highly commended for Lecturer of the year 2004 at the Management Awards 2004. Transferred in 2008 to Kaplan Publishing as a Content Specialist 2008 - responsible for ACCA P2 materials. Appointed in 2013 as Content Manager within Kaplan Publishing - responsible for ACCA, CIMA and AAT financial reporting, audit and law content.

  • I collect football match-day programmes - the oldest is dated 1920 and my oldest FA Cup Final match-day programme is 1950 Liverpool v Arsenal.
  • I enjoy travelling...in my previous job I was sent to a university in Siberia...very cold!!
  • I enjoy teaching Live Online as it brings me into contact with a broad range of students located in many different places. One ACCA F7 class I taught included a student based in New Zealand and another based in New York! As the teaching session finished, one student went for breakfast whilst another went to sleep for the night!!
Paula McGrath

Paula McGrath

Paula graduated from the University of East Anglia with a BSc in Business Finance and Economics and immediately joined PriceWaterhouseCoopers where she qualified as a chartered accountant. Paula then worked as a financial analyst and an internal auditor before joining Kaplan in 2005. Paula has been teaching for ten years, primarily for the Norwich and Live Online centres. In 2013 Paula joined Kaplan Publishing with responsibility for both ACCA F8 and P7 papers. Paula says: ‘Having achieved outstanding pass rates when teaching both papers, when the opportunity arose to be responsible for the development of the materials I wanted to be able to pass that knowledge on to the students. I hope that in some way I manage to make these papers easier for students to pass. I love getting feedback from students saying I have helped them pass their exams.’

Outside interests:

Running and cycling. I am currently training for my first half marathon and for a 50 mile bike ride. I did my first triathlon last year and will be entering the same event this year. Music. I love going to see live bands. I usually see at least one band a month. Travelling/holidays. I love travelling to other countries when I can. Last year I went to Singapore to watch the F1 Grand Prix. The Australian Grand Prix is next on the list.

Julia Falvey

Julia Falvey

Julia has worked a tutor for Kaplan Financial since January 2009, she is based in the London office but primarily teaches for the Live Online team. Julia specialises in financial accounting and tax and delivers training from all levels of ACCA, most recently F3, F6 and P6. She is also part of the team which prepares Kaplan's F6 materials.

Julia also taught P3 for several years and believes that the 'softer' communication skills that are part of the ACCA qualification are just as important for the modern accountant as the computational areas of ACCA.

Julia is responsible for helping our Live Online ACCA Knowledge Level students make the transition to the full ACCA qualification. She is currently using this experience as part of her course work for the PGCE qualification she is studying for through the University of Manchester.

Prior to joining Kaplan Julia read Mathematics at the University of Cambridge and then qualified as a forensic accountant with the fifth largest accountancy firm in the UK.

Karl Ballard

Karl Ballard

Karl studied Mathematics at Sheffield University graduating as Master of Mathematics in 2005. After University Karl joined KPMG in it's public sector audit team as a ACA trainee working across Local Government, Housing, Education and Health. During his time at KPMG he became responsible for a number of audit clients as assistant manager. He has also worked on a number of FTSE 100 clients and was seconded to the Audit Commission.

In 2011 Karl joined Kaplan straight into it's live online team as a tutor. He went on to be the course manager for CIPFA in Live Online and now heads Kaplan's CIPFA product. Karl teaches a number of Management Accounting and Financial Management Papers including ACCA F5, F9 and P5 and CIMA P1 and F3. Karl is also Kaplan's lead on the environment and sustainability working across the UK business to reduce it's environmental impact.

 

Outside of Kaplan Karl's interest are:

  • Riding his bike everywhere, including the UK Tour Du France stages in 2014, the Manchester Velodrome and various rides across the North West
  • Helping to run a small occasional club night in and around Manchester
  • Supporting Oxfam as a volunteer for over 5 years

Kim Lawley

Kim Lawley
CIMA qualified

Having taken his final exams in the late 90’s, Kim worked in the private and public sectors quickly becoming a specialist in system implementation. He left the public sector in 2003 to run his own business as a management consultant and project manager working on numerous projects in the private sector.

Having already gained experience of teaching (ice hockey referees!), Kim saw the opportunity with Kaplan and joined the company in the summer of 2007.

Kim specialises mainly in the Business Strategy area teaching (on line and in the classroom). Specifically ACCA: F2, P1, P3, CIMA: E1, E2, E3, Managerial and Strategic Case Studies, ICAEW: Management Information, Business Strategy and Advanced Case Study, IPFM: Managing Organisations and CIPFA: Strategic Leadership.

Kim believes that understanding is the key to most of the subjects he teaches and therefore believes that student participation and discussion is key. His job, as far as he see it, is to bring reality to the materials.

Kim is also the Live Online ACCA Course Manager responsible for overseeing the smooth running of the ACCA timetable.
